IMEI number detection?

Is there a way for AT&T to be able to tell that I have an iphone by the IMEI? I have a 1st Gen iphone that I have unlocked but used with my dealer plan and was going to switch to the 3G (although I will have to use edge network.) Will they be able to tell (since we are not supposed to use the iphone with a dealer plan - which is very dumb IMHO.)

yes they can tell you will be notified or just get a huge bill

what happens when you cancel before the 30 days are up?

There will be a 175.00 cancellation fee.

I forgot to mention that if you want to avoid the cancellation fee, you have to return the iphone.
