Unlocking a 3G iPhone

I currently have a Sidekick LX with T-Mobile, but I got bored of it after a good 6~8 months. So, I decided to buy an iPhone since I love the features it has... especially how you can touch the screen. The only problem is that I have a 2-year contract with T-Mobile, and I don't want to switch over to AT&T because it will cost more. To the point: I was wondering if anyone knows how to unlock the iPhone... I'm currently looking for the cheapest, if not free-est way to do it!

All the help I can get is much appreciated!

Thanks a lot everyone.

Try a Gevey 3G SIM adapter. They sell them on ebay.

The 3g is NOT unlockable via software.

The only way is using a Sim-adaptor.

Sorry I'm a newb at technology nowadays... is there a special brand of some sort that you're supposed to use and that is reliable? And how much do those "sim adaptor's" run for?

Edit: Could someone give me a direct link to a good/reliable sim adaptor (through e-bay) that won't fail or ruin my iPhone in anyway? That would be much appreciated!

Insert your simcard in it.....insert it into the iphone. Done.

You will have a few settings to change in the phone to get data working properly.

I have a 3G 16gig White. I'm just waiting for the Gevey 3G to come in the mail. Got it off ebay for 10 bucks.

I was wondering if it matters what I do first, jailbreak it with Wnpwn/Quickpwn then use sim adaptor to unlcok it or it doesn't matter which I do first.

I'm a noob and I'm just catching up on some research to do it all on my own here in the next couple of days.
