Iphone unlocking fine on T-Mobile UK but 3G stops working after every few days
I've unlocked my Iphone on T-Mobile UK via piggyback SIM and jailbroke it. I do get lost signals sometimes but it's not a permanent problem and signals come back again automatically.
But i'm facing strange problem which is that 3G goes away after 5-6 days of use and it never comes back even no edge. After trying everything the only solution i've found is that i've to reset Iphone to factory settings and do the software unlock again and then 3G comes back. But once again it goes again after 4-5 days of use.
First of all is anyone else facing this issue? if yes any better solution to it?
If not then i just wana confirm, is it safe do sofware unlock every week? or is there any hardware danger associated with it?
Many Thanks
Faraz

Hi Faraz,
As far as I know, no, software unlock can't cause any hardware related problems. Which sim unlock card do you have? I bought mine on Unlock iPhone 3G - Instant Unlock any iPhone and it works fine. No need for restarting and such. Good luck!

Hi I've used following site and they says that jail breaking is a must to get full unlock. Are you getting everything working especially 3G internet? and is it all happening without any software unlock? i.e. you've used only piggyback sim.
iPhone Unlock UK - 1 Click iPhone Unlocking Software
Many Thanks

I'm having similar problems. I have a 3G iPhone bought on pay as you go from 02. I'm using an any-network.com SIM piggy back device on T-Mobile UK. I have no software unlocking and my 3G connection is very intermittent. Sometimes it works fine but if I leave it in my pocket for 40 mins and try and use the Internet connection it normally fails. If I switch the iPhone off and on again it normally works again but not always. Sometimes if I don’t switch it off and on again it starts working again anyway. I have tried with the iPhone both jail broken and restored default 02 image but the intimittent conecttion problems are the same.
I’m using these details for the APN – general.t-mobile.uk, Username – user, Password – wap but I don’t think this is the issue.
I had similar problems on a Windows Mobile HTC device but nowhere near as bad.
Have you found anything more out? Which piggyback SIM device are you using?
Be interested to see if we can figure out what the issue is.
Cheers. Rob.

I am also having this exact same problem. Only difference is that I am using a '3' sim and a rebel simcard as the piggyback sim. symptoms are exactly the same - 3g was working all days but then stopped earlier this evening and i cant get it back on now. will connect to the 3 netwrok without any probs but jsut cant sccess 3g/the internet and seems to go to answerphone when i try to call my phone.
my iphone is jailbroken - i wonder if this may be related??

Jesus. Just get rid of your crappy sim adapters and buy an o2 Simplicity simcard. Probably cheaper than you're paying and a lot less grief

Guys please do let me know if you find any solution this is a real pain

My case is really horrible as i've to reset, jail break and restore my backup again to get 3G working
redcard, well I'm bound with T-Mobile 18months contract plus T-Mobile 3G is far better than O2 3G.

Are the symptons the same?
Are our symptoms the same? I can get my connection working again if I restart the iPhone or wait and try it again. Admittedly I haven't had it long enough to leave it for days without restarting it.
I’ve been doing a lot of tests today and I’m pretty sure it’s down to the T-Mobile network and not the SIM adapter or iPhone. Running tcpdump on the iPhone when it’s connected to the T-Mobile APN I can see repeated DNS lookup requests going out but no responses coming back. Will see if I can find a workaround but doubtful as don’t know what their infrastructure looks like.

just managed to get it working again. i put in my o2 payg sim and then put in my 3 sim straight after. the apn settings reset and data roaming switched to off automaically. i switched data roaming back to on and 3G appeared instantly.

Can you let us know if it's a reliable connection though?

mmdpkaaa, when you put your O2 sim was it with piggy back or without it? as i tried the same but there was no signal coming both with piggyback or without it. I suppose it's happening becuase my phone is jailbroken?
I've tried restarting n resetting apn etc.. but no luck!
anyway thanks guys for sharing your experiences!

I have tried several 3G unlock sims. Most of them have these dropping network problems. im now using 3G unlock iPhone info, safe Unlock steps wich has been working stable for 5 weeks now. Seems like these guys tested most of these unlock sims. It works good for me

Hi Faraz,
Jailbreaking does not have anything to do with unlocking as far as I know. With jailbreaking you will open your iphone for more applications. Unlocking a 3g iphone means that you use a sim card which will fool the iphone that it has an original at&t inserted. You can jailbreak your iphone but its not necessary for unlocking.

Check out delayed loss of 3G internet after pwn - Hacking - iPhone - Whirlpool Broadband Forums - sounds like the solution to a similar problem.
