unlock-> sim change-> emergency call mode
Hello,
I'v recently been trying to unlock my phone 2.1 with Pwnage and iTunes 8.0.1 on a mac (I'm not usually a person to take matters into hand, but the "knowhow" was a ripper).
And So... after a weeks slog everything went smooth finally! But after the whole process was finished, i switched sim's to check, and it goes into emergency call mode!? (I'm gathering it never got unlocked, true?)
So can anyone help?
(Never thought it would be SOo Complicated!
)

Bish,
Try this it is from another user Peaking:
OK heres the solution that just worked for me:
download patched lockdownd file from here
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
SSH into phone using cyberduck/WinSCP
navigate to to /private/var/root/Library/ and copy lockdown folder to your desktop (for backup just in case
delete that folder from phone
unzip downloaded patched file and upload to phone to replace the folder you just deleted
naviagte into patched folder and make sure file pemissions are set to 644 for all files
reboot phone...
that worked for me!!!!
If you want to read further check the post below named "different sim detected" error after Quickpwn to 2.1 and unlock at 2.0.2" aot of info there!
Here is another fix:
First, try to unlock and jailbreak using QuickPwn. Make sure you use the unlock option and give it the appropriate BootLoader files. If this hasn't UNLOCKED your phone, then do the following:
Plug the phone into the computer and turn it off.
Remove any SIM card that is in the phone.
Put the phone in DFU mode.
Shift-Click on Restore in iTunes and restore it to the WinPwn custom 2.1 firmware for iPhone 2G (link)
After your device is jailbroken, it will boot up and give you an error about not having a SIM card inserted, just click OK.
Use Cydia to install BootNeuter
Run BootNeuter. It will do some stuff on its own, just make sure that the "Unlock" is set to "On"
Exit out of BootNeuter and turn off the phone
Put in your SIM card (I tested my friend's T-Mobile SIM) and turn on the phone
With any luck, your phone will boot up and be unlocked and jailbroken and be on the service of your choice!Last edited by Genxbio; 11-09-2008 at 05:49 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

You can download DiskAid to use to transfer files between your PC and iPhone via USB. Works with Windows and Mac.
Google Diskaid to find their site and try that.
Just curious, but did you unlock, put in sim, sync with iTunes, then remove and install another different sim, then try to sync with iTunes again? I did this once and had to unlock again?
Not sure if that's common or not, but unless you have tons of stuff on your phone, I'd just restore and start over.Last edited by Bigperm26; 11-10-2008 at 03:55 PM. Reason: typos!

Ive had issues switching SIM cards after using quickpwn but NEVER with pwnage. If I were you I'd build another custom firmware with pwnage and restore.

Still haven't gotten the answer to this 1:
Question:
When unlocking, the phone needs to be connected to the computer with the USB without being unplugged at any time, right? So: When iTunes pop's up after i have Successfully entered DFU mode, it's supposed to display a message reading:
"iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used with iTunes"
But mine end's up displaying:
"A phone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the phone, then try again. An unknown error occurred"
And then i have no other option but to re-plug the phone, as iTunes won't simply detect the phone until i don't. Just wanted know- Should that pose to be a problem in the procedure of unlock. Like destroy it completely/ Fail the process? Or is it ok?Last edited by bish4n; 11-13-2008 at 02:06 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Thanks
I have just confirmed it and DiskAid is THE answer!

Thanks
honestly answering about your "curiosity" BigPerm26, [ I Really don't know that much about When and how do sim's go in or out throughout this whole process of unlocking. I'v been going around these Forums asking countless questions to people about it, but on one answers!!!] So i will just tell u what i did:
I went through this whole process of unlock with the original O2 sim that it came with, Installed. And b4 the unlock i restored it to factory settings, as that's what the tutorials ask's (i did it with the O2 sim installed!). And after the whole process is over and all the steps mentioned in the "Tutorials" have successfully run! Then is when i Change the SIM and it goes to emergency mode!!!!
So now U'v made Me Curious, U'r supposed to put the sim in after the unlock?
Anyways, as far as i can make sense of what u wrote i don't think that should have happened, cos after unlock (if it was actually successful) it doesn't make a difference How many Sim's u change, it shouldn't Lock, irrespective of Sync'ing it with iTunes- But thats only as far as i know...Last edited by bish4n; 11-12-2008 at 08:33 AM. Thx in advance for your help your directions were excellent. I only have one question how do I make sure file permissions are set to 644. I have been trying to figure that out with negative results. I’m using Cyberduck?

may be it just me but i notice at lot of people have problem with pwnage tool, i find building custom firm take too long, quickpwn 2.1 work great for me, and don't need to build a custom firm, does unlock for 2.1 fast and easy. may be should try that. and also i find that when u unlock, jailbreak, restore, which ever u do, leave the sim out. it creat less problem.

You probably figured it out by now but anyway-
If u are a Mac user then click command + i on the unzipped patched file and go right to the bottom of the information window where they say "Ownership & Permissions", go to Details and though the default setting of the folder/file is 644 but just do a check to see->
Owner- User's -Access is Read & Write; and Group-User's - Access is Read only; and Others- is also Read only.
Then Click 'Apply to enclosed items'Last edited by bish4n; 11-14-2008 at 07:28 AM.
