My friend got a 8gig 2g and im unlocking it for him to use with Tmobile. I started by restoring it to 2.1 and was going to use quickpwn. After i restored it im pretty sure i need to activate it right? before i quick pwn it?

I have ATT so i put my card in there but itunes tries to activate it and goes through all the options to set up a new plan. How do i just activate it and get it unlocked? Ive searched but i still cant quite figure it out.

edit: i just tried pwnagetool and it wont work either. I downloaded both bootloaders, 3.9 and 4.6. When i get to the step to where i need to locate them and open them and it says their not the right files? It doesnt make any sense.

Pwnage doesn't ask for bootloader files. Quickpwn does...

do this restore the phone without any sim at all, when it is done, turn itune off, then quickpwn it using 2.1 only, follow it, you phone be done then, quickpwn 2.1 will activate, jailbreak and unlock 2.1. simple and fast.
