    Default Activation Help! 3G Iphone!

    Hi there,

Can anyone help me with my 3g Iphone. I bought it yesterday 2nd hand and its a US Iphone locked to AT&T. I wanted to get rid off all the data on it, so I did a reset. However, after doing this I couldn't switch on the iphone and eventually had to restore it. Being a newb, I restored it to the new 2.1 software, and am now being asked to activate the phone, which obviously I can't do.
Can anyone advise me on how to activate the phone? I know there are different methods, but I don't know which is best. I will want to jailbreak the phone, I don't know if this makes any difference.

Any help would be appreciated, this was a gift from my Mum and if she finds out it's not working, she'll kill me!!

    Rachel

    To J/B it, yes.
You will need a sim card to unlock the phone. Rebel SimCard - Unlock iPhone 3G - Unlock all versions inc v2.1

No after you j/b the phone you will need to set it up as a new phone with itune, and then it will be activated by itunes.

I don't know whats going on, but once I go through the program I'm just left with an apple logo for ages. Is this normal or am I being stupid and doing something wrong?

I managed to jailbreak my phone, thanks.

    Hi Rachel,

I've used the following sims which are gevey, virginsim (weak signal) and i-smartphone3g sim and they all work on 3.

However I personally found that the i-smartphone3g sim works best for me so far with better reception and 3g coverage in which i have had running for 1 day so far in different areas with no signal loss as of yet *fingers crossed*

Im expected to try a virginsim high speed one soon to see if that would be better. I will post details of that as soon as i get it.

    Thanks

^^ VirginSIM gives you weak signal?.. I find that very hard to believe.
SIM solutions barely affect your Signal strength. Whoever says it does, is talking pure bs.

CrazyRach, Your going to have to get yourself on a MAC. Get PwnageTool and create a custom firmware with the Activation option set to Yes (ie. Your NOT using an official carrier).

Flash the firmware in DFU Mode with iTunes, put in your TurboSIM (id go with Virgin SIM, you can read the results of various SIM's ive tried in my sig) and your good to go.

If you need any help, dont hesitate to PM!

Well that is what I experieanced here in the uk with the virgin-sim on 3. I am not talking b/s. I may just be the one unfortunate person. But i have tried 3 different sims now and got different responses with each of them Virginsim are issuing me with another one with high speed soon as i had problems. And as soon as i have tried that i will post feedback.

in my case i just found the i-smartphone sim to work better for me. i have been using it for 2 days with no probs so far.

just restore it with itune 8 2.1firmware(i don't know 2.2 is out but i been hearing about it) as soon it is done press ok then shut off itune if u not using att, if u are just let i tune reconize it. if not don't, then quickpwn it. then phone is activated and jailbreak. i didn't read the whole forum, may this already answer. but if not there. hope this help. and sim solution don't affect signal strength, my 3g is much better signal then 2g without sim hacked. but i do have alot of problem with edge. keep going out.

Well I went back to the person I bought my iphone off and they swapped if for a UK model. So now at least I can use my o2 sim card. Tried the turbo sim again with the 3 card, but nothing. I'm thinking it maybe broke though as theres a chip in the bottom of the turbo sim which goes to just below one of the pins.

I'm confused as to what sim card to try though. The person I bought the phone off said that he managed to get 3 working with a gold I-smartphone sim, where as mine is black. But with people also mentioning Virgin Sim I don't know what to do. Esp as 3 seems to be a very odd carrier to unlock

my ismartphone sim is black and so far it seems ok.

but i do think there are problems with 3 on the iphone. the reception seems to vary a lot and the 3g data connection seems to drop alot too.

well correct me if i am wrong but isn't all iphone 3g is the same just lock to which ever that carrier is? now i notice about sim unlock does take 10min to work, idk why, but it was the same way for 2 3g i use with gevey, but the website said it may not work with some carrier, who knows, i think your phone is fine, just restore it without sim in it, then turn off itune when it is done, then quickpwn it when it is done, put your sim unlock in, then wait for awhile, 10 min or so. it should work fine, but i done US stuff, can't tell u much about euro, but it should be the same. good luck

I've used both Gevey and I-Smartphone and my opinion on both these is that there is definate signal loss. My mum uses vodafone and has a decent GPRS signal, I try the same signal in my iphone and get "no signal".
I used to have a 3 sim card in my viewty, my signal would often roam to the orange network (this is what happens with 3) but with my iphone this isn't happening and while at home I'm just getting "no signal".

I'm going to try one of those cheap signal boosters, but if that dosnt work in the future I might go for virgin sim. My only problem is that they are quite a bit more expensive than other brands.
