Got the iPhone 3G and a turbo sim but: SIM failure!
OK I quoted my original text. but here's the update:
Got the white iPhone 3g (firmware 2.1) with a little extra cost but it works, got the 3g with cydia and installer already on it installed and according to BloomDeal (linky to his page selling the 3G) I should just pup in the no-cutQ-sim fis-5 (V10)(linky to it) turbosim and it should work...
Well it barely fits... and if it does after carefully forcing it and using some tape to hold the turbo sim together I get greeted with the "SIM Failure" message and it stays with barely 1 bar and unreachable connection..
it may be a fitment issue... or I might not have done the correct procedure... I just aligned the sim and turbosim and put them in but to no avail.
Anyone notice / know if I did the correct procedure?
The turbosim seems to get stuck while I insert it and the lower part of the plastic seems to want to bend..
a detailed link to doing the whole turbosim procedure from scratch would be appreciated too.
original post of this thread:
I'm not 100% familiar with how it works but after next week I'll get an iphone 3g from the states for full price without contract but with a turbo sim included.
I live in the Caribbean.
My question is that I'm not familiar with what activation basically means for my circumstances and if someone could post me a link or small answer to this:
from what I've read I basically should first download itunes 8.1, then jailbreak (quickpwn) the phone, then after it's jailbroken, pop in the turbosim with my local gsm and voila working activated iphone 3g... is this correct?
ps. I already have an ipod touch for over a year and also personally jailbroken it a few times.Last edited by Lostfaith; 11-10-2008 at 05:45 PM. Reason: SIM failure!! need some help!

Ah ok, so jailbreaking and then turbosim unlocking will do basically the same thing as the instore activation.
was just a bit worried I might've overlooked something.

Bump, I got the iPhone however some problems getting the phone part to work... help?
could be a fitting problem.. or could it be due to me not realizing a certain procedure to get the turbosim to work?
edit:
I didnot connect the phone to itunes yet... ... may this have something to do with it giving me the Sim failure message?Last edited by Lostfaith; 11-10-2008 at 06:06 PM. Reason: no itunes yet

Bump again after a week. Update:
still not working, not trying it in fear of the turbosim getting loose inside as it doesn't slip in that easily.
I've heard that my turbosim, Q-sim is not accepting my carrier but the other on the island... and that I'd need another different brand/type of turbosim to work with my local carrier here in the carribean.
Is this kind of thing true?

Hi Lostfaith, sorry to hear about your problems. I know the feeling. I bought few cards and was not satisfied with them. So I bought from here Unlock iPhone 3G - Instant Unlock any iPhone and am quite happy as everything works fine. They have tested they sim in 20 and something countries around the world. I guess you have problems with your unlock sim card. I think you should think of purchasing other sim unlock. Also here is a link where they show exactly what do you need to do and how :
