Help trying to SSH into iphone using cyberduck(I/O Error: Connection failed)
I used PwnageTool & QuickPwn 2.1 for 2.1v on my 2G iphone a few days ago but was still getting error message when I put in my international sim card its giving me “different sim detected” error and telling me to connect to iTunes.
After a great deal of research I decided to SSH into phone using cyberduck and download patched lockdown file.
Cyberduck
I clicked open connection.
In the Protocol dropdown menu, choose SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)
In the Server field put in my phone’s IP
In the Username field, input root.
In the Password field, I entered alpine, (as far as I know I haven’t changed it)
Click Connect
I/O Error: Connection failed
Sftp://(my IP address)
There was a problem while connecting to (my IP address)
My iphone is connected to my network; however, this iphone has never been activated.
At this point I’m stuck what am I doing wrong?

Do you have OpenSSH installed on the phone?
If your phone is not activated, I doubt you have even accessed Cydia?

I had the same problem..
Is your computer connected to your network wirelessly? Your computer needs to be connected to the network the same way your iPhone is.
Try that. Hope this helps!

You need to install OpenSSH on your phone through Cydia before you can SFTP into the phone.

I just want to make sure I understand this. If I had my phone activated I would not need to install OpenSSH on my phone through Cydia?

No, Even if you had activated, you need to install OpenSSH to access your phone through Cyberduck/WinSCP, etc.

Hello I have some Queries- My phone has similar problems and i also have do this SSH patched lockdownd file into my phone and comp. I'm a Mac user, i know i need Cyberduck. But my doubts are that Cybreduck does need Wifi to function right? So if i don't have Wifi can i Use DiskAid instead?
Thanks in advance

cyberduck and other SSH programs do need wifi. If you don't have wifi you can use DiskAid.

Hello,
I'm very new to this stuff so if anyone doesn't mind please help!
Note- I am using DiskAid to transfer files between my Mac and iPhone.
I Start from Step 4.1 on my Mac, and download the patch lockdown file from the link that's provided, on to my desktop. I get it as a Folder called 'Lockdown' containing 3 files with the extensions .plist (1 file) & .pem (2 files).
Then i Jump to Step 4.4- where they ask you to unzip it, and I kind of get lost!!
But I follow Step 4.5 anyway and transfer the file to my phone and reboot. It obviously dosent work.
Can any1 please fill in the Blank's!!
ThanksLast edited by bish4n; 11-14-2008 at 07:38 AM.

I was having this same problem, ended up scouring a bunch of articles and doing a bunch of unnecessary things that didn't help... the solution for me was quite simple - maybe it will work for you!
After you've installed OpenSSH on the iPhone via Cydia, restart your phone.
Then, turn off the Auto Lock under Settings by selecting "Never".
Turn on your WiFi connection... then, if you have SBSettings, you can use it to verify that OpenSSH is on (but it should be automatically in the background anyway)...
Next, open Cyberduck on your computer - select Open Connection...
Here's the critical step that made it start working for me -- SELECT "SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)" from the dropdown menu (it was defaulted to an FTP connection)!
Then enter "root" as username, "alpine" as password (unless you changed it manually through Mobile Terminal to something other than the factory default, which I did not...)
And it should work! At least it did for me -- the problem was I overlooked the default selection for an FTP connection in the dropdown.
Hope this helps!
