Need help upgrading my phone

Itunes ver 8 will not detect my new 2G phone without a simm card and when I put the simm card in it is forcing me to activate my phone with AT&T. I bought 3 phones and i did not have any problems upgrading/unlock 2.
When the phone is turned on, the only option is to connect it to itunes but itunes is telling me to activate with at&t
Any ideas ?

You need to "hacktivate" your phone. Itunes wont allow you to if its not AT&T.

How did you unlock it?

i connected the 2 to Itunes and was able to restore them but for some reason this ones is not working. I qckpwn'd them after the restoration

and how do i "hacktivate" it - what i did previously was - i had the option to restore or upgrade when it was first connected to itunes but i do not have that option now

You will either need to use Pwnage (for Mac, if you have one), or load a custom firmware file (which was created in Pwnage and is jailbroken/unlocked) onto the phone through Itunes.

That is my problem - itunes is not recognising my phone without the simm - and with the simm, it is taking me to at&t activation

Got it - it was in DFU mode and i restored out of DFU mode
