iPhone V2.1 - Need Help Unlocking

does it matter that it not the 3G, it's the original? I'm also using MAC OS with iTunes 8.0.1. I've heard that iTunes 8 locks your phone after syncing?

i think he is using iphone 3g locked...thats y cannot unlock?

I have my 1st gen pwnaged and unlocked 2.0 w/o issues, and did the same thing for one of my friend. Recently upgrade to 2.1 and pwnaged and unlcoked w/o any problem also.
But tonight when I was helping another friend out. Restoring the firmware created by pwnagetool via itune on his powerbook, keep getting error code 21. tried both 2.0 and 2.1 no luck same error. so I brought his phone back thinking maybe my imac will have better luck. but noooooo, same problem. here is what I did to make it work afterward, not sure if i am doing something stupid, but it work for me and hope it will help other:

1. restore the apple 2.1 (iPhone1,1_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw)
2. quickpwn it (QuickPwn_1.1) the phone activated, but still locked
3. then i decided to put my friend's phone to recovery mode and restored the customized firmware (the one I used on my own phone the customized firmware created by PwnageTool_2.1
4. the phone then works fine upgraded and unlocked.
I know it might be double works, but hey if it works who cares? i think the bootneuter might not work properly when i used the Qpwn and that's why I restored the file created from pwnagetool

what kind of error u are getting? robafrank. it help if i know what error, and which iphone u doing 2g or 3g?, can't software unlock 3g yet, but pwnage should know its a 3g and no unlock option will pop up, but i use quickpwn easy.
easy way,
upgrade itune 8
restore firmware 2.1
when done, turn off itune before first sync(ssh have some problem before)
but i use total commander, does everything i need
then quickpwn 2.1 pwn it
check everything, except pineapple icon unless u like pineapple
then wait and FOLLOW the instruction.
then done. (now if u want to use ssh do not start itune, install openssh in cydia first thing)
