Error 1604 while upgrading from iPhone 1.1.4 to 2.0.1

Hopefully someone can help me out.

I had been running my unlocked iPhone 1.1.4 and decided to upgrade to 2.0. I used the following method using Pwnage 2.0 and I now have some problem.

Pwnage 2.0 Guide - ModMyi - Wiki

I get the Error 1604 error every time. I got through all the steps and I think made two errors. I’ll explain. Anyway, I got through all of it but when the iPhone was restored it was not recognizing the network and I noticed it could not activate Wi-Fi. I should have stopped there.

While using Pwnage above. I committed two errors I think. I downloaded the restore for the 2.0.1 ( iPhone1,1_2.0.1_5B108_Restore.ipsw). That is what link pointed to so I downloaded it. I noticed that the file name was different than the guide but figured it was the latest version of 2.0.

The second error was in the Pwnage there is an option to “activate the phone” under General which I left checked and “Unlock Baseband” which I also left checked. Later rereading I thin I should have left these unchecked since I currently have AT&T service. Nevertheless I need this phone for use with other carriers as well.

Since then I have tried thing I have seen on forum sites.

Is there any way to salvage my iPhone? Every time I try to restore the iPhone using the steps above with firmware 2.0 or 2.0.1 (the custom ones created) it gives me the error 1604. I am using Mac OS X 10.5.5 and iTunes 7.7.1. Please help. Hopefully the above was pretty clear. If not please let me know hat else I can provide to help with my problem.

This solved my problem. After looking for several hours and trying several times to unlock, it finally worked. I followed the instructions on the link:

Jailbreak and Unlock 2.x on Windows - ModMyi - Wiki

replying yes when it asks me if I wanted to unlock my iPhone helped it after the first two attempts.. It took me three tries with this method but finally worked.
