if he is willing to do it in person and specifically said it's not a hardware unlock then maybe it's true. Damn! And my sister just came back from vegas 2 days ago from a tmobile convention(she is a manager for tmobile here)

I have a friend from Thailand said there are stores can unlock US iPhones by software in order to use there... give the benefit of the doubt, I think somehow the software unlock actually exist... but just can't figure it out why no one come forward about this.

People aren't coming out about this because they are all making money on unlocking phones. Just wait, it will come. Honestly there is no reason to unlock a 3G in America as of yet anyway.
If you plan on doing it, I would demand to let the guy show you what he does. If its software there is no harm in you seeing a damn thing... not like you will be able to take this software that he claims he bought from an Apple source just by seeing it.Last edited by sziklassy; 10-07-2008 at 09:37 AM. True... I guess I don't mind pay money to have the US version unlocked by software... I wonder after that, does that mean the phone is like those overseas unlocked version? Never need to redo it again if you need to restore the phone.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about it being unlocked. If this was the case this guy should just buy iphones retail unlock them and sell them online. He would double his profit with each sale and not have to worry about 100 dollar jobs here and there. Safer and easier for him. I suspect that it will relock with an update but really there is no way to know unless someone has tried it.

Another curious thing... if it DOES keep it unlocked will it void warranty I wonder? I only ask because the IMEI/serial need to match and they will show Apple that the phone isn't originally unlockedLast edited by sziklassy; 10-07-2008 at 09:45 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

if it's unlocked with official iPhone unlock method I doubt it would void anything

Interesting point of view... I guess buying the unit from HK would avoid all the problems.
