I recently bought a used iphone 3g. Before the guy sold it to me he restored it. I don't have an AT&T sim, I have my tmobile one with a universal sim.
Now, I am unable to activate it. I tried to jailbreak it but that didn't work. I am stuck at the screen on my iphone with the usb cable and iTunes logo. There is a T-mobile signal however.
Do I absolutely need an AT&T sim to continue with the jailbreaking process?
You will have to use a program like "Pwnage" (which is MacOS) to activate the phone for you. Because normally when your AT&T Itunes will do this....but it wont if you have a Tmo sim, and even if you did have an AT&T sim it would de-activate once the Tmo sim was inserted.
If your on a WinPC and running firmware 2.1, then there is also a way of doing it....its just more of a pain.
