3g unlock is it ever going to happen?

Guy's,

I don't mean to sound inpatient just open debate really, but do you think we will ever get the 3G iphone unlocked?

Yes we have the jailbreak and activation, but do you think we will ever get an unlock as it has been a number of months now since the release?

What do you think?

I think so. I remember the 1.1.2 out of the box first gen iphones were a tough bunch to crack. It will happen, there is alot of money involved in unlocks

what money? Doņa

what money? Donations?
But yes correct me if I'm wrong but 1.1.2 OTB took around 3-4 months to SW unlcock infact Geohot said that it was "impossible"

I was thinking more about private companies that charge like 20-100 bucks for an unlock using their own software/methods. Donations work too though

I think that eventually we will have a software unlock.. but it may not come for nother couple months... I hope it hits us before the end of the year.

I would also be happy if the sim adapters actually found a way to perfect their methods, my old stealthsim worked without any side effects on my 2G, but the one I have on my 3G is not as good.

Lastly, there is an off chance someone finds a way for a hardware unlock like geohotz original unlock solution, which required taking the phone apart to modify its hardware... Im so desperate at this point and so tired of the sim adapters that I would attempt this, or at least pay a decent chuck of cash to have someone that knows what they are doing, do it for me.

here is to hope!

I've only tried the universal sim. It is decent... But I hear that just like all other sim adapter solutions it will eventually give me the no service message and need to be removed from the iPhone and placed in a tmibile phone to re-establish a connection with tmobiles towers. Hasn't happened yet, but it's only been a few days. Sometimes I lose edge and I have to reset to get it back. And now I get a fair amount of dropped calls. Not sure if it's because I didn't update the baseband or if it's ecause the adapter.

Universal Sim unlocker works well for me so far

Like reznor9 and thanks to him, I bought the Universal Sim Unlocker as advertised at UNIVERSAL-SIM — The ultimate universal unlock SIM, with the latest software version 5.5

It's only been 48 hours, so still early days, but so far, everything works as it does with Official carrier, except Visual Voicemail.

I also upgraded from Jailbroken 2.01 to iTunes 2.1 FW then used the new Quickpawn from iPhone-dev blog and that enabled me to sync with my T-Mobile sim in the iPhone 3G.

I'll keep you all updated after next weekend as I will be traveling hundreds of miles next weekend and that should be the ultimate test for signal droppages etc, but so far...all good!

just use yessim and you wont have that problem. 2 months now no problems can switch between cell towers and dont lose service with their new firmware "iphone"
