could a prepaid at&t sim card with 20 minutes on it activate my non-activated iphone 3g or do i need a att sim card that has a data plan? or do i need to... jailbreak it and use that activate i heard that was bad if i have att.

Are you actually going to use the phone as a phone? Or do you just want it activated and why?

Because it would be much better, easier to do it with software. And cheaper.

hi! I am in the same boat. I have a pre pay sim card with att and want to put it in my iphone. its the older iphone with the silver back. Is there anyway to do that?

No, you cannot activate with a prepaid AT&T SIM Card.

Best thing to do is activate it with RedSn0w, but you won't have Push working

only if the phone is unlocked will a prepaid SIM work.
bur like ryan said, data doesn't work on prepaid.
