That's good to hear. Where did you buy the universal sim and pkey reader? I'm also with T-Mobile USA. I have an iPhone 3G but I have only used it as an iPod since I do not have a simcard adapter yet. Can you also let me know step by step process you did to your iPhone 3G? Did you do jailbreak first before using Universal Sim? What jailbreak method did you use? How did you do the T-Zone hack? I will deeply appreciate if you share to me your knowledge. Thanks!

How did you unlock it?
I unlocked mine using Yessim and TurboSIM and both work perfectly.

I bought my universal sim from a guy in Canada.
This is my process: (if you on AT&T you don't need to jailbreak it. But if you want to use cydia, then you will need to jailbreak it)
- created a custom 2.0.2 firmware with YouTube activate, cydia, installer 4, and activate the phone! Using Winpwn 2.5
- restore the phone with that custom firmware
- when done, I set my mine up as a new iPhone.
- unplug my phone from computer
- go to setting on my phone, then general, network and set Data Roaming On, 3G Off.
- then pop the universal sim and tmobile sim in.
- wait for it to get signal, and the Edge icon appear!
- test call, call voicemail, call back iPhone from home phone to make sure call in and out is working!
- test SMS in and out
- turn on wifi test YouTube, maps
- open cydia, install open ssh, bosspref, Tzone hack!
- restart iPhone
- turn on iPhone. Go to network check to make sure cellular network or apn address is wap.voicestream.com. If not, fill it in!
- open safari, test edge Internet. Make sure wifi is OFF
- after safari working, go to map, test pin point location on edge!
After that you can do pretty much everything else with your new iPhone 3g on Tmobile. Syncing your music, photos, and contact back to your new iPhone 3g..

I might be wasting my money cause i said I was going to wait 3 weeks, but I found a guy local that sells the universal sim for $40... going to pick it up today and cross my fingers.
Update: purchased, installed. Worked right away
Calls in/out: working
SMS in/out: working
Data edge: working (a t-zones hack)
GPS: working, but not pinpoint accuracy(gives gps blue blinking dot, but also has the small transparent blue ring around it... Very close though, but may not be good enough for turn by turn dierections)
Been working since 9/10/08
Lost signal and phone recovered after exiting dead zone.
Let the testing beginLast edited by reznor9; 09-11-2008 at 04:10 AM.

Any-network sim card adapter
Hey guys,
first off for the record I do not work for ANY-Network, im a littel upset cause it took them about 6 days to deliver my adapter, but besides the fact, im using t-mobile in the US in Miami, FL. I have had the sim adapter since yesterday afternoon, and to my surprise, I have had excellent reception on my iphone 3g,in fact better than the one I had with AT&T about 3 weeks ago before I ported my number back to T-Mobile,I have been able to make and receive calls with no problems, excellent sound, no need to disable the 3G option, I have T-Zones hack and my internet is working smoking fast. Needles to say, I am incredibly happy with this solution. So I would recommend it,others seem to not have had a good experience, but I have ****AGAIN I DO NOT WORK FOR THESE PEOPLE***
I RECOMMEND IT

Update on Universal Sim
At first, incoming calls and incoming SMS did not work but everything else works (outgoing calls, outgoing SMS, YouTube and Safari). It's a good thing I bought a Pkey USB reader and I was able to update my Universal Sim to the newest version V550. Now everything works. I am still deciding when to jailbreak my iPhone 3G. I'm studying the WinPwn process now.
By the way, I had a hard time in removing my simcard from the card tray. I was about to cry since I thought my simcard was stuck inside. I have even taped the Universal Sim and my simcard together. Thank goodness at the end I was able to remove it without damaging the card tray. I hope I will not experience that again.
To those who are planning to use simcard unlock adapter, be careful and be patient in removing it from your iPhone. I'm not sure if taping it together helps but if you do, put only a small piece. Also, another advice to those who are planning to buy Universal Sim, I highly recommend to purchase the Pkey USB reader too so you can update your Universal Sim to newest version.Last edited by luvmyfone; 09-12-2008 at 01:29 AM.

buying the pkey to update universal sim is a good investment. If your sim adapter is not updateable, at some point it will stop working with new firmware release from apple!
Reznor9. I know your problem. It is due to the software on your universal sim is older than v4.3. You need to get it update to v5.4 or v5.5. Or else it will stop working later on
I'm using v5.5 now on the universal sim, to my experience, v5.4 is working better. I have lost edge icon twice on this new v5.5. And never lost my edge icon on v5.4
btw I left my tmobile and universal sim card in the iPhone 3g while restoring and jailbreaking! I don't think it has any effect on the phone!Last edited by istorm; 09-12-2008 at 01:59 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Do I need to restore my iPhone 3G first before doing jailbreak? Or just do the jailbreak without restoring? If I need to restore, do I do normal restore or DFU mode? Do I need to check the activate box when jailbreaking? I read in some post if you jailbreak iPhone 3G to uncheck activate phone. My simcard is T-Mobile and my iPhone 3G was activated and locked with AT&T. I'm so confused on how to jailbreak my phone.
My iTunes is version 7.7.1 and my iPhone 3G is firmware version 2.0.2. Also, iTunes keeps on saying the simcard inserted is not supported when my T-Mobile is in the phone. So how can I do restore? Should I just put the unactivated AT&T simcard when I do jailbreak? Should I select I'm not using official simcard during jailbreak?Last edited by luvmyfone; 09-12-2008 at 02:33 AM.

I think it might have just been misaligned(will try taping the two together if it happens again), although I could be wrong. Reason being, that I specifically asked the guy if it was of the new software version V5.5 and he said he just updated it before he gave it to me... but of course he could be lazy and lying. But everything is working still. Sometimes when Im on wifi for an extended period of time and I shut it off, my edge sometimes doesnt pick back up unless I reboot. No biggie...
This probably isnt sim related but since I switched to the 3G phone, my battery seems to be draining faster, and I have the 3G switched to off already. If anything I thought battery performance would improve.
The guy I bought the universal sim from actually thinned out my tmobile sim card to make it fit flush with the universal sim. I would have never thought to do this, but it worked and the process took less than a minute. He first tried to insert it without doing anything.. fit was too tight. So he took a normal cosmetic fine grit nail file(like the ones you buy at walgreens or anywhere), and he rubbed my tmobile sim card against it, for those of you that have no common sense, it was the side of the sim opposite of the sim chip
... anyways, he would rub it a few times against the file and try it... still not flush, then he rubbed it a few more and tried it again, and it was a perfect fit! goes in and out without a hitch. Just thought I'd share this with you all cause it works great

Thanks for the tip. I haven't tried it yet since I don't have a nail file at home. I was able to remove my simcard again successfully. I had to remove it because I had to do sync it on iTunes. iTunes does not let me sync my iPhone 3G when my T-Mobile sim is in it. It's a good thing I have a spare AT&T simcard. Anyways, update on my phone...
Jailbroken using QuickPwn
Unlocked using Universal Sim
Signal - okay
Edge - okay
OpenSSH - okay
