Can iphone purchased from Apple can be unlocked anymore?

Recently Lost my iphone, need to be replaced with another one. I unlocked my lost iphone by myself with tutorial. I heard somewhere out there that Iphone purchased from Apple Store can't be unlocked anymore. I don't want to pay 500-600 for 8GB on ebay. Apple only sell them for $400+tax, and unlocking isn't too long. Please advise as I need a new IPHONE quick.

Yep, the current out-of-the-box iPhones are actually pretty easily unlockable with new methods. You can take a quick look around this forum but it looks like the current easiest method is ZiPhone.
