Anybody know anything about unlocked 3g iphones from Austrailia

I have been looking all over the net and keep running across these 3g Iphones from Australia and from what I can gather you can get them unlocked from Apple down there. Is there any truth to this and if so anyone know of a way to unlock a 3g Iphone without some crazy SIM card way?

yes im from Australia and its true you can purchase unlocked iphone here
each provider charges a diffrent price to unlock the phone
optus = $50
Vodafone = $75
and Telstra = $150
once you have choose to get the phone unlocked it takes about 3 days for apple to do there magic
then after this time you sync your phone with itunes and itunes unlocks the phone
once unlocked its unlocked for good
you can restore the phone jail break it and it will remain unlocked for ever
