Unhappy Please save my iPhone. Unlcocking questions..

    Dear MMItes,

I would be obliged if you can take a few minutes to answer my question. I tried posting but no one replied.

I am in the process of downgrading from 1.1.3 because of Installer issues. Currently I have reached at firmware version 1.1.1 with 4.02.13_G baseband, old-good bootLoader and locked.

Can you please advise me what to next so I can unlock and use my phone?
    Do I need to :-
    1) do a baseband downgrade?
    2) Virginize?

I would be really happy if I can go up to 1.1.2 , unlocked.

    Thanks many.

    Friendly Regards.

If you started with FW 1.1.1, 3.9 bootloader then probably the best thing to do is downgrade to 1.02, virginise, upgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak, Oktoprep, upgrade to 1.1.2, jailbreak. There are plenty of guides showing how to do this.

Thanks. But since I am now I am already on 1.1.1, do I need to virginize?. If I decide to stick with 1.1.1, will AnySIM be able to unlock my 1.1.1 with the baseband 4.02.13_G?
    Please let me know.

I'm pretty sure sure that AnySIM won't work with 4.02.13_G modem firmware, so this needs to be downgraded. You will need to downgrade the this - there are tools in the installer to do it for you

Omg.. I am confused. I referred to the Dev page here, and they are saying 4.02.13_G is REQUIRED for unlock. http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/
Will this unlock if I am on 1.1.1 with a baseband of 4.02.13_G?
    Please help clarify.

Actually you're correct. Ignore everything I just said

The guide says: This version works only with 4.02.13_G baseband version and can be run on 1.0.2, 1.1.1, or 1.1.2 jailbroken systems

So I guess it will work for you

    Great to hear. Thank you.
    Few more things to clarify:-

    1) Do I need to Virginize before I go ahead with the Unlock?!

    2) Is it advisable to NOT unlcok in 1.1.1 + 4_02_13_G - Instead Just OctoPrep, 'Shift-Upgrade' to 1.1.2 firmware, conceit's Jailbreakme.jar and THEN unlcock using anySIM1.2u ?

    Thanks many.

I guess you don't have to virginise. And personally, I would go for Oktoprep --> 1.1.2 --> Unlock if that works.

Thank you. Going to take the plunge after reaching home
    Shall update here for sure.

Success. I unlocked sitting within 1.1.1 with the 4.2.13_G firmware using AnySIM1.2.u. Though AnySIM said, it successfully unlocked, there was no carrier information or signal bars. Then I Just upgraded to 1.1.2 - to my surprise, the Unlock survived and Worked perfectly without having to unlock again.
