Thats not a hardware unlock,thats sim card spoofing. A hardware unlock is physically modifying the internals of the phone in combination with software to make it permanently unlocked without the aid of other equipment.

I havent jailbroken the 3g yet to test out the edge part...planning to do that later this weekend. will let you know what I find.
