3g iPhone Activation Advice - UK

Hey.

I bought a new 3g iPhone off a buddy who got an upgrade from O2 here in the UK..

The phone is unopened, still in the box.

I pay to use my contract O2 SIM in this phone, so it won't need unlocking for the time being.. It will still need activating though..

Thing is, I've heard that 'activating' can break things so you get "No Service"..

Will this happen to me if I try?

And if I do try, is it reversible?

Thanks

Well, I tried it anyway. And I get no service.

A DFU->Restore to the proper firmware seems to put the phone back to it's preactivated state. We'll have to see.

So it looks like I'll have to wait for the unlock..
