jailbreak question

ive have my iphone for a few months now...kinda scared of jailbreaking it yet i wanna add 3rd party apps like the NES emulator. when i go through the whole jailbreak processing taking it from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 will i loose all my stored contacts list. any help would be great i dont wanna loose all the stuff i have on the phone if thats whats gonna happen when i jailbreak it

iTunes should automatically create a backup so when u jailbreak it will put all your stuff back on there after your through.. it did for me

yup when you downgrade or restore ..everything on the phone will be gone.

wait.. wouldn't itunes back up your iphone anyway?
right?
i never downgraded.... but when i do restores, everything is backed up from the last sync
