Some info here on OTB (Out of the box) unlocking info, putting all info in one spot to make things easier. First the basics.
Apple updated the bootloader in the week 45+ iPhones, your week number is the 4th and 5th number in your serial number, i.e. xxx50xxxxx If its 45 or above, you can't unlock it software wise. When Apple puts out a new firmware, there is a chance a software unlock will be possilbe, follow geohots blog here for updates. And the bootloader cannot be downgraded and downgrading to 1.1.1 or any other firmware will not work that bootloader remains the same.
There is a way to unlock them still, one way is TurboSIM Here is a site to order from, they are expensive, you can probably find cheaper ones not from that site. Here Is the official site, currently closed.

Another option is StealthSIM, almost the same thing, the official site is here and you can buy one (though I am hearing this isn't a good place to buy) here
Heres how to unlock with StealthSIM
Step 1. Jailbreak, instructions from the site here
Step 2. Get your SIM and StealthSIM ready by cutting off the top right corner of your SIM card.
Step 3. Place both in the SIM tray, and insert (may be a little tricky)
Your done!

SonicSIM, use two SIMs!

I know there is a thread on here about this site, but I wanted to put the features up. I talked to the owner/whoever he/she is and they tell me no stock till friday. I was going to order one and see if it works at all. Sounds too easy to me. I like the concept of the sonic sim myself. I do not care for the cutting of the sim so close to the actual working part though.
