activation with iphone

I bought a new Iphone and im already with ATT my iphone wantes to be activated so when i go through the steps in itunes and pick "replace a phone on my account with this iphone" i dont really want to replace my other phone.

After i go throught the steps it forces me to select a $20 data plan, i do not want this. How can i activate the phone without that?

I want to use my current sim card and switch between phones.

I know you can use software to get around the activation but i dont know what firmware my iphone has installed.

Welcome to MMi! What you're going to want to do is download iLiberty from ww.theiphoneproject.org and use the "activate" button to bypass iTunes activation.
