My phone is already unlocked(1.1.4) can i update to 1.1.1. my phone is unlocked and jailbroken. im trying to get the itunes activation screen to pop up

Then restore your phone in iTunes but do NOT unlock/jailbreak.

yea im on at&t, i dont need it jailbroken or unlocked. I have just heard some bad stories about people restoring the phone from 1.1.4 firmware to 1.1.1 and the phone bugging out on them

Stick with 1.1.4 for now, period, don't even try messing with previous firmwares if you are already on 1.1.4 because downgrading is not nearly as easy as upgrading.

Just restore the 1.1.4 firmware via iTunes and as long as you don't run an unlock/jailbreak/activate utility iTunes should pop up the activation screen.
