Default How do I find out what method was used to unlock my phone?
    Hi all,

Hope you can help. I have an unlocked/jail broken 1.0.2 Iphone (and loving it!) but is there any way I can find out how it was hacked in the first place? It was bought "as is" in Asia and I wanna know what method was used so if or when I come to upgrade I won't run Into any problems.

    Thanks in advance.

What you can do if you like, is revirginize the phone back to factory state, and then unlock it through the method you prefer. That way you can track the success of updates to that method.

See the Guides on how to re-virginize.

Does anyone know if the virginize feature in iDemocracy works to properly virginize an unlocked phone?

you can find out the way it was unlocked. I'm sorry but Eurisko is totally wrong. You can use minicom to find out the simstate on your iphone....If its 4 or anything else other than 5 its iUnlock or anysim. If its 5, it is IPSF.....Please search these forums and you 'll find the instructions.

Ya, he's quite happy to insult other people, but if you do a search of the threads, all you find is his instructions on how to check whether its a 4 or a 5. How does he know 4 is AnySIM and 5 is IPSF? Well, until he states his source for this info, I'd say he's making it up.

Well I can't seem to open minicom anyway get an error, I don't have termcap in the other dir. either........

It's kinda all getting a little beyond me now. I'm only a noob

So two questions. 1, Is it safe to virginise even if my phone was unlocked with IPSF or will I end up with a brick?

2, If it was unlocked with IPSF could I just try another sim in my phone? If it works I'm ok, if it doesn't (and asks for an activation code) it's IPSF?

Ok, may be three questions, if I try option 2 and it turns out to be IPSF can I just pop my usual sim back in and all will be fine?

Thanks in advance, don't you just hate noobs.......

I was scouting for methods to find the way in which my phone was unlocked and I found few posts at hackint0sh which I'm having trouble finding now. But I did find this :

and by the way, that wasnt an insult. I just said that you were wrong. Anyways, I am not here to argue or "make things up".

99.9% iUnlock was used or anysim . . . you bought it in Asia right ?
they'd never use the paid for method such as ipsw etc etc . connect it to winscp and see if you can find any folders in applications like iUnlock or anysim. After unlocking most people just use the uninstall option to remove the iUnlock or anysim app , this usually still leaves the folder in Apps intact.
    Hope this helps Regards
