Sold Iphone. How to clear data, unlock, restore 3gIphone
My 1.1.4 8G phone is Ziphone jailbroken but not unlocked. It is sold but I don't have to ship until 7/14. My first priority is leaving Itunes in a position to restore data from old to new phone. Here's what I plan to do and would appreciate advice:
1. Sync old phone
2. Under General/Reset select "erase all content and settings"
question: will the phone remain jailbroken after this step?
3. Open Ziphone, Select advanced settings, select "unlock Sim-Lock"
question: when I used ziphone to jailbreak, I think Itunes was used and the phone was synched again. I suppose that will put my personal data back on. If so, I will use step 2 again.
4. Remove Sim from old phone and ship to happy new owner.
5. Wait in line. Buy 3G Iphone. Follow their instructions.

Perfect.
I did the same thing and everything was fine and the phone remained jailbroken.

when to erase data
Thanks
When you unlocked your phone, did you erase all data before or after the Ziphone sim unlock? Does the Ziphone sim-unlock require an Itunes synch and is personal date restored during that sync? Thanks again.

I want to be clear about the distinction between jailbroken and sim-unlocked. My iphone is jailbroken by ziphone (allows Installer and 3rd party apps) but not unlocked(allows the use of other carriers sim cards.) I see under Installer a program called Unlock(1.1.4). That sounds great to me. I gather you used that and it worked fine. The notes for that program say you must be on 3.9 BL. Any idea how to determine that?
In summary, the steps would be:
0. Get new 3G Iphone
1. Sync old Iphone with Itunes
2. Sim-unlock with Unlock (1.1.4)
3. Erase all data
4. Ship phone to new owner
5. Follow Apple instructions for set-up of Iphone 3G

You are all set. You are on BL 3.9 as ZiPhone downgrades the bootloader to 3.9 and that's what you said you had used.
