I just bought (through craigslist, my mistake!) a new Iphone. The phone was in the box, the box was sealed, and when I opened the box, the phone had all of it's normal plastic wrappings (I believe).

The 4th and 5th digits on the box and phone are 41. So, I was under the impression I had a 1.1.1 phone.

I took the phone to a guy who unlocks phones, and he told me it was a 1.1.2 phone that could not be unlocked. He said he could tell by the menu when he powered on the phone and by checking the version which is: 04.02.13_G

Any ideas if this phone can be unlocked? Thanks for any and all help.

Its not an odd question, in fact it's been asked many many times. And the answer is an OTB 1.1.2 iPhone cannot be unlocked through any method on god's green earth at this time.

But week 41 is supposed to be 1.1.1 (with 04.01.13_G modem FW)

45 and up is 1.1.2

But if modem FW is 04.02.13_G (OTB) there's no "free" unlock solution yet.

Is it possible that whomever you bought this from upgraded it to 1.1.2 and put a new seal on the box ?

I know people who have week 44 iPhones and they have 1.1.1

IPSF won't unlock an OTB 1.1.2 phone, it even states that on their website. There is no solution right now, paid or otherwise.

I believed I was safe with a week 41 phone. It may be that the person upgraded to 1.1.2 and resealed the box, I have no idea, and wouldn't know how to tell. Of course others tell me they could tell me if the phone has been upgraded...for a fee. Oh well, expensive mistake on my part, buying the phone off craigslist.

well... Pretty much all phones out there that are being sold 'brand new sealed' are going to be 1.1.2. No fears an unlock will be released

why dont you check your bootloader version?? jailbreak and search for a guide on this site, it tells you how to do that by running "bbupdater -v" at the terminal or via ssh. If its 4.6 then you cant unlock right now(you can use the turbosim method though), but if its 3.9, then go for it! Unlock your phone!

I bet the person upgraded to 1.1.2 FW by mistake and resealed it. If that is the case you can downgrade it. Abhishekkhurana is right, check for the bootloader version first but at a week 41 it cant be a 1.1.2 unless the seller
A) upgraded it by mistake or
B) swapped rear covers
