iTunes won't read my unlocked iPhone! HELP!

I bought an unlocked iPhone 1.1.1 from the US, and I have been using it for a day now with my UK Vodafone sim card. I finally managed to download iTunes 7.4.2 (as recommended by the guy who sold the iPhone). However, when I plug the iPhone to the computer, iTunes gives me the message:

“iTunes cannot read the contents of the phone “^1”. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings.”


What should I do??? I'm using Windows.

restore the phone would be the ideal solution, maybe even go up to 1.1.2 from 1.1.1 by using this tutorial too http://www.modmyi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17185

Thanks, but is there anyway I can fix this without having to restore it??

yes there is a way. use an app called swaptunes. it will "switch" itunes library with a different one. same thing happen to me
