iPhone Update 1.1.2 and SimFree v1.8 news
November 20th, 2007:
iPhone Update 1.1.2 and SimFree v1.8 news
We would like to let all our valued customers know that all testing for update 1.1.2 version phones is now complete. Yet again, SimFree remained completely unlocked and restore resistant for 1.1.2 version phones but we wanted to check and verify new updates to the OS region changes before recommending trouble free updates. As with all updates, the phone needs to be jail-broken and activated again for it to function. Thanks to the great work of the community, jail-breaking a 1.1.2 phone is now possible and works great.
We would like to also bring your attention to the recent events surrounding the iPhone Scene around the world. The recent launch of the European iPhone has introduced a new Bootloader which "currently" does not allow any kind of unlocking. The same Bootloader is present on the new iPhones that are purchased in the US with 1.1.2 pre-installed.
We are also ready to release SimFree v1.8 which is for people who got their base-bands updated to 04.02.13_G before using SimFree. This version must be used on a 1.1.1 Phone (with old bootloader) and then you will be able to update to 1.1.2 and still remain unlocked.
As a reminder, customers who have used any version of SimFree in the past are NOT required to re-unlock their phone for this update!
Procedure to update to 1.1.2 from older versions:
1. In Installer go to Tweaks 1.1.1 and install Oktoprep.
2. Open iTunes and hit Update in order to install 1.1.2 (note that if you press Restore it wont work)
3. After that is done, download Jailbreak-1.1.2 and proceed with the Jailbreak procedure. (for Windows & Mac)
4. You will want to install iWorld from Installer after you update (found in Tweaks 1.1.2) in order to fix a known 1.1.2 crash caused with Unsupported Carriers.
The procedure to Install SimFree v1.8 on your Phone remains the same as before. Just add http://tinyurl.com/2qxpe6 in the Installer Sources and you will have the option to install SimFree v1.8 on your phone.
Keep your eyes pealed for more news soon to come.

It did work for me for one phone. But did not for an other as there is a problem with installing the SimFree on my phone.
The http://tinyurl.com/2qxpe6 does work but when I try to download SimFree 1.8 from the Installer I get "Error Mail script execution failed." And when I look at the file that is downloaded: http://www.iphonesimfree.com/iphones...e-v1.8-rc1.zip
It only contains NULL characters.
Here is a hex dump of the file...
Can you fix this?Code:00000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000040 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000050 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000050 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000060 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000060 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000070 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 00000070 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| ...... 000c84c0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |................| 000c84d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |........| 000c84d0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 |........| 000c84d8

I had the same issue. Installer (v3.0b8 running under iPhone 1.1.1) gave me the "Error - Main script execution failed." And the zip file downloaded from the link in the "2qxpe6" xml file consisted of all null bytes. I left a response at the IPSF website, but of course no reply. I wonder if there if there is some other url to download the file?
Brendanbank, on the phone where the Installation worked do you still have a copy of the SimFree.app that was installed, and is it v1.8?Last edited by nosix; 11-22-2007 at 06:00 AM.

So if you unlocked with them in previous versions, just install that one application, upgrade, jailbreak, and activate, and go??
What are they saying about purchasing and iPhone with 1.1.2?? Is it possible yet?Chris 'cWanja' Wanja

It appears that simfree 1.8 has an install issue. the reseller i purchased it from just sent me this:
With you upgrading your phone to the latest firmware 1.1.2, you have the latest modem firmware. You need to use the latest simfree v1.8 app to unlock your iPhone. Since late afternoon yesterday, there has been a problem installing simfree v1.8. iPhoneSimfree has almost resolved the issue. As soon as it is resolved, I will contact you with further instructions.

Is SimFree free or for sale? If it's not free, why not use AnySim instead which is free?

I know many people knock IPSF because you have to pay for it , but since my first unlocking on 1.0.2 with it , I have NEVER had to unlock the phone again , even last night when I decided to upgrade to 1.1.2. My phone went through hell , it was running 1.1.1 , I oktoprepped and went up to 1.1.2 , youtube wouldnt work , so I decided to restore to 1.1.1 again , long story but ended up going all the way back to 1.0.2 3 times and then up again through 1.1.1 and onto 1.1.2 and the IPSF sim unlock survived everything I threw at the phone. Now sitting happily on 1.1.2 on T-Mobile with everything working perfectly.
Never knowingly understood.

Brain, which version of baseband firmware did you have on your 1.1.1 phone when you performed the unlock using SimFree v1.8? Was it version 4.01x (which comes with 1.1.1), or 4.02x (which comes with 1.1.2.)?
I have heard conflicting reports as to whether v1.8 only works with 4.02 baseband or is downward compatible with 4.01.
Thanks for your help

IPSF should have a status bar on their main page to tell people who purchased a license from them if the server is down, i've been trying to unlock my phone and am always getting server communcation errors.

I also have 04.01 firmware with an update to version 1.1.1. I have simfree v1.8 successfully installed on the phone. I ran the program and it went through without a hitch and said "phone successfully unlocked" but when I put my AT&T sim card in, it still reads "Different SIM detected, Please connect to iTunes" If it was successfully unlocked, then why won't the phone pick up service?

. AnySim worked like a charm for me - twice. I don't buy things just because they are expensive.
