I purchased an iPhone on ebay and the guy who I bought it from doesn;t know the difference between firmware and firm thighs, I asked what firmware the iPhone has and he responded literally, "I got it from an at&t store."

Wow, so anyway, is there anyway of knowing what firmware this iphone is running on, I don't have a at&t SIM, I'm with T-Mobile, and I don't know if I can perform the wasy 1.1.1 jailbreakme.com method since I dont know what firmware it has...

Can somebody help me.

yep in the call menu dial *3001#12345#* then call.. youll see a fieldtest app ..touch versions and thats it!!!!!!!!!!it will display you modem firm versions

if the phone is used and it is on "activate" screen that means the phone was restored , and you need to re-jailbreak it. so it doesnt matter is it was or wasnt jailbroken, lets just hope it is not bricked
