    Default Activation Huh?

    I understand unlocking allows you to use a different service provider. Also, activation simply activates the iphone so you can use it.



    If I simply activate, does this mean the mobile Internet (EDGE) network is fully available? Is there any way to have the EDGE network without signing up to any provider (perhaps activating?) Let me know details, thanks.

    no. you need a service provider. Activating just lets you use the non-phone features of the phone without a carrier: ie wifi, music, videos, apps
