"Carrier 8.0" and no service?

My iPhone 3G is jailbroken and unlocked on 4.1 with the iPad baseband installed and in Settings>General>About>Carrier, the field says "Carrier 8.0". I know that my SIM needs APN settings, but I installed them and Carrier 8.0 still remains. When it is functioning properly it is supposed to say "AT&T 4.0", but it is not an official carrier SIM. Other posts said that this "Carrier x.x" is "weird", but I don't know what it means or how to fix it.

Got the same iPhone 3GS / iOS 4.1, and settings say "carrier 8.0". What does that mean? I only wanted to assure an Upgrade on iOS 5xx and not loosing the unlock. Howto do that?

What is your concern about 8.0,,is the phone not working ??,I had the same 8.0 on 4.1 w/i3g updated to 4.2.1 it went to 11,the phone worked fine w/8.0 I am not sure why the concern...
