Adding a line question

So right now I have an iPhone 4 contract with AT&T. This weekend I plan on getting my girlfriend an iPhone 4, adding a line.

Right now I have unlimited data (grandfathered in)

Am I going to get subsidized pricing on the new iPhone? Is this going to effect my data plan at all?

What's the average price for 2 iPhones? Do both share the same data, minutes and texts?

She will not get the unlimited data, but you will keep yours. If you switch to a family text plan it is 29 dollars for all phones on the plan for unlimited texting. You will pay $199 for the 16gb and $299 for the 32gb plus an activation fee. The only way you will share minutes is through a family plan which will also make her plan only $9.99 a month and then $30 on top of that for the data since data packages are not shareable.

Also, you may have to pay a deposit depending on your credit check that they will do before adding the line.

I read that it shares 530 (minimum) minutes? Or around there. So minutes and texting is shared? Then say another $25 for 2gb for her data?

It is refreshing that it'll only be $200+activation for a new iPhone 4. I gave her my old 3GS (which currently has iPad data in it), but she deserves something better. But I'm looking at:

$60- basic minutes
$0- no texting
$30- my data
$25- her data
$?- Tax

So probably $120 a month before my 15% discount. That's not as bad as I thought, but I'm probably missing something?

550 minutes is 59.99. For $10 more you get 700 shared minutes. Texting would be shared if you added the $30 family text plan which gives everyone unlimited texting or you could skip that and get Textfree from the app store.

And 15 percent discount is usually just the taxs do figure you 120 month add or subtract 1 or 2 dollars

Just another quick question that my girlfriend was wondering about. The rollover minutes I've been building up, will those be accessable still? Thanks!

You will be able to keep as many rollover minutes equal to the minutes that your new plan is. Ex: If you have 5000 rollovers and go to a 550 minute family plan you get to keep 550 rollover minutes.

So for one month assuming I don't use any minutes at all, the next month I will have the 550 plus another 550, totaling 1100 minutes for that next month? And that would be the max I would ever get?

No just when you switch your plan say you have the 700 min plan with 1000 roll over built up. Ok now you which to the 550 you only get to keep 550 of 1000 roll over mins. But you can get as many roll over mins as you want after that. They stay on for a whole year from the day you accumulated the roll over mins. So lets say you never talk and you do the 700 min plan you can get a maximum amount of 700 minsX12 months=8400 roll over mins a year.

You are correct except that your rollover minutes keep stacking up for 12 months and then they start dropping off. So if you and your girlfriend only called AT&T cell phones you could have 6600 minutes stacked.

Well looks like I have everything all set up now, thanks again guys! My girlfriend was pretty ecstatic when they opened it up in store to activate it :P

The Apple store didn't set up the family plan correctly (as I found out this morning), but a few clicks on att.com fixed that.

I found out that I was able to get 550 shared minutes, but unfortunately the rollover minutes I accumulated in the past will all expire next billing cycle. That minute package combined with my discount came up to $50 even (I'm pretty sure it might be estimated right now though). And with the two data packages, the estimated bill will only be around $110, which is a lot better than what I was expecting, not sure why as that's probably around average for two basic planned iPhones.
