Data plans breakdown
This is for the people that arent lucky enough to get the unlimited plan option or are looking to save a few bucks on there phone bill.
Alot of people are asking what is the difference in the 200MB and the 2GB plans other than the price.
Which are 15 dollars for the DataPlus 200MB
And 25 dollars for the DataPro 2GB
Well here is a break down of it.
I got all these numbers using data calculator from Att. If you still have concerns after all this play around with it to get a better idea on were you might need to be.
Data Calculator
DataPlus 200Mb Plan (Each is based on 1 month of usage)
Web pages-1150
or
Emails sent/received (no attachment)-10100
or
Email with photos -600
or
Emails sent/received with attachments-700
or
Streaming Music-7 hours
or
App downloads-60
or
Social Media post (facebook, myspace, twitter, ect ect.)-420
or
Stream video-105 mins
DataPRO 2GB Plan (Each is based on 1 month of usage)
Web pages-11300
or
Emails sent/received (no attachment)-102400
or
Email with photos -6000
or
Emails sent/received with attachments-7075
or
Streaming Music-69 hours
or
App downloads-510
or
Social Media post (facebook, myspace, twitter, ect ect.)-4175
or
Stream video-1050 mins
I ask each one of my customers what do they do most when it comes to internet.(You Att rep should do the same as well)
If they say emails and social networking usually the DataPlus covers them.
But if they stream music download and play games ect... I tell them to take the next step and pay the 25 for the DataPro.
Also a couple of helpful tips
1) If your going to download apps and music do it from your computer then sync the phone that way your not using you internet while doing that.
2) If your some where such as home or work and you know there is wifi use it no need to waste data when you can get it free from somewhere else.
3) If you have apps that are constantly pulling data (facebook for an example) close it completely out dont let it run in the background with multitask.

I have data pro. All my email accounts come to my iPhone and it is set on a 1 hour fetch. Facebook and twitter on occasion, some light offline gaming(but uses data for those social services they have). I stopped watching youtube until I get home on wifi.
So in short. Lots of email, some light gaming and social items and I hardly pass 100mb.
Had to wait at Volkswagon for service one day but hoped on their wifi and watched Hulu+.

Is there anyway to block AT&T from knowing there is a 3gs on their network. I upgraded to 4 and gave my daughter my 3gs. She doesn't need a data plan, but they detected it and charged me $25.

Nope... the only possibility is if you buy an unlocked iPhone from another country.
It's stated in the Wireless Service Agreement online that iPhones, regardless of how they were acquired, must have the data plan attached to them and such plan will be added by at&t when appropriate.Member of the hackint0sh forums.

lite email
google maps use
heavy texting
price scanning
lite web surfing
so for my first month with my iphone I hit about 30 mb on my 200mb plan.
I use wifi at home all the time, so that helps. Its nice to know I can use my data plan a little more and not really worry about going over.
u could back that down to the 200mb plan. its only $15Last edited by macleod1976; 05-18-2011 at 07:06 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I stream radio stations about 40 hours a month, average email usage, & an above average amount of internet usage (reading the news and mmi) and I average about 3GB a month even with wifi usage at home.
My wife averages about 300mb with typical average usage.
