Same data plan from 2g on 3gs

I don't know if this has been posted, I searched but haven't found anything. Here is my question:

I recently obtained an iphone 3gs from a friend,I have a 2g. I was wondering if i unlock it will I be able to use it with my 2g plan or will they still upgrade me?

it should be able to provided you enter the correct apn settings

You can use you 2g with the right apn settings. Atleast for a while. But it's smarter just to upgrade call in say you have the unlimited 2g plan and you want the same with your 3GS
