3G service not working (iPhone 3GS)

Hopefully somebody can help me figure this out. I have had my phone for over a year, and just recently the 3G service has stopped working. It connects, and shows the 3G logo, but I can't make or receive calls, or any data. Wifi works fine, and when I turn 3G off edge works fine. I first noticed this shortly after upgrading to iOS 4.0.1 and using jailbreakme, but not sure if there is any connection.

I just tried upgrading to 4.1, no change. I'm starting to worry that it might be hardware related. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

That happened to my 3g and it was a software prob.. I restored a 100xs and still nothing so i let apple look at it and it was software
