When will 3G and Edge activate?

I just signed up for AT&T and bought a new iPhone 4. It has yet to find 3G or Edge. I've made sure both are on and restarted the phone.

Give ATT a call on a different phone. They will tell you to do a bunch of things restart and stuff like that. they told me it was because you took the sim card out of a different phone and then put it into the iPhone so that is why it isn't detecting the 3G or edge.
