iPhone 3G No Data Plan Question

I recently purchased an used iPhone 3G and upgraded it to iOS 4.0 and jailbroke it using redsn0w. Previously, I was using a Nokia E71x with no data plan, and decided to follow the steps outlined at this website to use my iPhone without a data plan: How to Have an Iphone Without the Data Plan. Unfortunately, I later checked my ATT account and the iPhone appeared under my phones. I have since removed the SIM card from the iPhone and I am going to put it back into my E71x. My question is this: Is there a way for me to use my iPhone with no data plan and without ATT knowing and switching me to a data plan? Thanks for any help.

Nope ATT has been doing better sweeps of the IMEIs. Your e71x should be tagged with a data plan too since it is classified as a smart phone. Some people have had luck last for a little bit but majority of the time ATT catches it.
