So I bought the iPhone 4 through my friend (he had upgrade)
But I have T-Mobile. I probably won't use it until they have an unlock/jailbreak so can I just wait and then hacktivate it?

You could have him activate it and then take his sim out. You should be able to use it as an iPod touch until the unlock comes out, if it comes out.

It is never a given, but the devs are doing great things for the community. If you do use it as an iPod touch keep it in airplane mode.

Then it won't nag you in iTunes about a sim. And it will save your battery life
