Default Taking iPhone 3GS from USA to the UK

As the title mentions, I will be leaving from the USA to the UK for 2 weeks and do no intend on using my phone for any "phone / data services" that aren't wifi-based. In short, I would like to effectively bring my iPhone with me and use it as if it were an iPod Touch (with Wifi capability) so that my AT&T phone bill would not change at all (as if it never left the country).

I have read that simply keeping "airplane mode" on the entire time that I'm over there would accomplish this. Is that accurate? I've also seen some websites that claim to disable all data / phone services for international travel.

Can anyone confirm or deny any of this? What's the best way to handle this?

Just turn airplane mode on and make sure data roaming is turned off.
