Will a unlocked & jailbroken iphone work as a pay as you go phone?
Yes, I know there are many threads about this subject, but I would like someone to clarify this. It says that it will not work on a phone with OS 3.0, but I want to know if it will since the phone is unlocked and jailbroken. The phone I am wanting to buy on craigslist has OS 2.4, but I want to know if it would still work with my pay as you go sim if I upgraded to OS 3.0, and then re-jailbreak/unlocked it.
I don't want to use a data plan, I will only use Wi-Fi for internet.

My iPhone 3g 3.1.2 is on a pick your plan. All total it costs me about $63.00 a month. No credit checks, so I guess you can call it a pay as you go.

The only GoPhone data plans are 1MB for $5 or 100MB for $19.99.

I have a GoPhone I activated and I can't seem to get the GoPhone (Pick Your Plan) SIM card to work in my iPhone. How did you guys do this? My iPhone is 2G with 3.1.2 firmware. It works with a real AT&T SIM card and a T-Mobile SIM card, so I know it's unlocked. Please advise.
Thanks

I ran the gophone sim on my 2g, just had to baseband crack it to accept other carries.
The goPhone sim is not the same network as the 3g, alas different sim card.
I am now running the gophone sim in a 3g, was much easier, just popped it in.

remember also that on the gophones if u use your sim on a gophone it will be lock to that phone so u will have to go to at&t and get a new sim card if u try to put it in your iphone...

Set the gophone with sim up first then insert into unlocked iphone. I was able to get internet via edge but any internet usage pulled away from my minute package with an text alert of the usage and current balance. It can be done though using a gophone sim.

i believe it will work fine... you just need to use the gophone simcard.

Bought a iPhone one month ago, perfect in everyway new jailbroke and ready for a t-mobile pay as you go sims. Guess what wifi has disappeared and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. Since the iPhone 3 is jailbroke can't go to apple for a replacement, and no one has any answers, some say it's a hardware problem, others say it's the softwRe problem, those people who have contracts or warranties simply go back to apple, where the salesclerlks only answer is to replace the iPhone with a new one. Since I can't return the iPhone since it was jailbroke, etc., I have a rather expensive paperweight. I've been looking everywhere for help only to find others in the same boat. Apparently this has been an ongoing problem, wish that I had known about, a month ago before I went to eBay.

Thats not entirely true.
For 8 years I used the same SIM in a number of different GoPhones. The only time I had to get a new SIM was a month ago when i finally got an iPhone. And it was mainly because it couldn't handle the 3G stuff or something. (It still had Cingular on the SIM.)
My mother went throught 2 or so GoPhones on the same SIM (until she lost her phone..had to get a new SIM and a new GoPhone)
My sister is also on her 3rd or 4th GoPhone with the same SIM.
Mind you all these SIMs are from contract accounts. We started with a 2yr family plan 8years ago, and after that just went into month-to-month.

This thread is about making iPhone work on PAYG plans. What you are asking has quite literally nothing to do with the topic. You should make a post in the appropriate forums (perhaps T-Mobile or General iPhone Chat?). Coming into a thread and asking a question that has nothing to do with the topic is called threadjacking.
WHEN YOU TYPE IN CAPS ONLINE, IT MEANS YOU ARE YELLING. haha. You need to search the forums. There is not a full staff that waits for you to ask a question that has been answered several times before. Please search.
To both of you, the reason that no one answered is because you are approaching the forums the wrong way. My apologies to the OP. I don't normally do this, but I felt compelled...And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

To clarify what was posted above:
The following applies only to GoPhone packages sold since summer of 2009. GoPhones sold that include free airtime credit such as $15 or $50 will have the sim card locked to that GoPhone for up to six months. This is true only if you activate the GoPhone with the sim that it came with.
To get around this, you would have to activate that GoPhone with a sim card that you can get at the AT&T store or on ebay BUT you will not get the free airtime this way and the sim card will now be able to be used in any phone including the iPhone.

i have an iphone 2g. when i updated to 3.1.3, i re-broke/unlocked it with redsn0w and now my goPhone card won't work, so i went to Walmart and bought a tmobile prepaid which does work (also, it seems that my bluetooth has stopped working among other things) but vonage mobile, my main reason for using an unactivate iphone as opposed to an iTouch, seems to still work as long as i don't use the tmobile APN settings.
just though you might want to know that...
