Default AT&T "smart" sim chip? is it true?

So I was at the AT&T store today and one of the sales reps said that even if you put another at&t sim chip in an iphone it would recognize that that sim chip was in a smart phone and would automatically add a data plan to said sim chip (30 dollar one) if it didn't have one.

So my question is, is it true? can the sim chip tell if it's in a smart phone and would it add a data plan?

Also if your phone is jailbroken/unlocked would this still happen?

Exactly what Zwayne said, and changing IMEI is illegal(if you are caught) and if you mention it to an AT&T tech rep they **** and start frieking out cause they think they are the smartest people on earth when it comes to cellphone technology. And whats the point of having an iphone without internet? No fun at all!

actually, what I noticed from the people who call with iphones is this. Change the imei to say a non smart phone and removes the data plan, moment you put it into the iphone you should get a text stating you are now on an iphone and need a data plan. Ignore it and after the AT&T servers do updates your phone will now be slapped with the 30 dollar data plan.
