wywi tether and at&t

i called at&t and asked if they offered tethering and they said not yet. i installed the mywi app to help my friend check her email because she couldnt get a wifi signal at her apt where she used to. amy question is anyone who has hacked and used their 3gs to tether , have you been charged extra by att ?
