give how much info to att
i talk to att. i have given my wife the older 3g iphone and put her razor v3 sim into the phone. whe doesn't need data plan. i keep having to enter puk number from time to time. i guess att need the iphones imei number to talk to the sim and identify the phone properly? should i give them the info about the change and the imei?
will they insist on a data plan?
thanks

It doesn't matter what sim you put in her 3G because the network will still identify the phone as being an iPhone due to the IMEI.
They will start bugging you about putting a data plan on the line.Last edited by CaptainChaos; 10-29-2009 at 04:26 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

so they get the imei number shown to them by just using the phone. the girl on phone from att told me to call to update the number with att for my account.
what makes the puk number request keep coming up to enter the puk and password?
i have data plan on one 3gs. i would think the cannot make us get 2nd data plan, but they will try.
thanks

You are required to have a data plan on every iPhone. It is not optional. It sucks, but it is a part of the terms of using it with ATT.
I have no clue about your PUK.

That PUK & password inly comes up if either the SIM PIN has been entered incorrectly too many times, or (in some cases) the SIM is damaged.
If the PUK request is constantly coming up without provocation, your SIM probably needs replacement.

I Disagree!!
I have to disagree with you Chaos, you are required to have a data plan if you get a new Iphone or had a data plan before, I have 2 first gen Iphone's and I don't pay any data plan; the only thing that sucks its the customer reps trying to "convince you" of getting the data plan.
They also will lie to you about missing features due to then lack of "data plan," I changed my number and my voice mail was not working right, the customer rep told me that it was due to the missing data plan ( Are you kidding me?), I told them it was a feature I never needed or used and that I rather say hi to Android that pay them in the future if they keep trying to make me pay for a feature I don't use. I think it all depends on far you let them push you; if they keep pushing me I'll be happy to say hi to Android soon... my three cents!

Well, to be honest I'm a cheap bastard and I only use WiFi, so I don't need the data plan, you have to remember that when we got our Iphone the plan data wasn't even offered until later on, so I only use my phone when WiFi is available... Since I never used that feature; I can live without it...
