You can try it but they know what phone your using by the imei number and they've been cracking down on 3g users without the correct data plans lately.

You can look in the news section at the top of the forums, I think theres one in there. 3.1 isn't jailbroke on windows yet, you have to get a custom firmware file made on a Mac.

Actually there is a 3.1 JB now, I have just done it successfully following these intructions: HOW TO JAILBREAK iPhone 3G 3.1 on windows
Make sure you have iTunes v8.2 (the v9.0 will not work), and redsn0w v0.8)

Actually if you read that method it is nothing more than putting a CUSTOM firmware on the phone which has to be created with a mac.
