what will they do?
so everyone keeps asking the same question, "can i use an iphone on att without the massive data plan?" well i already know it might not work and theyll send the "do or die" text message. So heres my question, if they send that, is there any way i can switch back to my old phone, call them and tell them i wont use the iphone anymore? will that stop them from changing my plan?
thanks to all

Wrong, your supposed to have the data plan, but you don't need it. My cousins iPhone does not have a data plan and data is blocked by AT&T. Been this way for over 6 months and has never recieved the do or die txt u speak of. If u tell them not to change the plan they can't. They will not just add it to your bill, people love to spread rumors and this is one of them.

I just dont see why anyone would want to run it without a data plan. It makes the iPhone useless without it IMO

Thanks for clearing it up one of my GF's coworkers was told at the apple store that they must have the data plan yesterday I'll let him know so they can make up their mind though since his partner is on tmobile I still think they should just buy em and connect eh at least now he can go in tomorrow and get it done
Thanks AgainThanks to all of you @ Modmyi for all of the help you've provided

It's called wifi, he uses that instead of the data plan. It does what it's supposed to do without data, and that is be a phone. Some people can't afford the data plan. So why should they miss out on the iPhone just because they don't have the money to get the data plan?

Dude get pissed because people are asking why someone has an expensive phone with no data plan (not getting the cheapest data plan they can find)also AT&T clearly states in the fine print that all iPhone plans include data which is required so slow your roll ,it's not people spreading rumors, it's people WHO READ but as we also know sometimes companies like to leave things out therefore we have forums like this.

^ r u refering to me? I'm not pissed. You believe everything you read? I read mms was getting turned on today, and did it? No. I know your refering to the tos but oh well. It can be done just try it for yourself and don't believe everything you read especially on an Internet forum. It's like the old game telephone kids play by the time it gets to u the info is all screwed up.

I like the iPhone because I got it for free. Can't pay the data plan because I'm paying for school, but I've got wifi all over campus so it doesn't matter if I don't have data, I can still get all the web features

I have to agree it is lame to have no data, makes it just another phone IMO. Like I said tho why should someone miss out on it just because they can't afford the data plan.

No Data Plan works for many
Calling people Lame without Data Plans are small minded morons. 2 sons and wife have Iphones with Blocked data. Data plans would cost $720/year. They have 1 device that is a phone, text message, Music, Photos, Camera, Contacts, Audio Books, Games, etc etc and when connected to Wifi, Mail, Facebook, Twitter, Maps, Skype etc etc
Saying the iphone is no good without a data plan shows your ignorance

They are just saying that while the iPhone does have all those things it becomes even more with the data plan. But to each his own. I don't think I could live without the data plan but if I had to cut some money I would make do on floating the wifi networks around work.

To each his own but IMO and that's all it is an opinion why buy an expensive iPod with a cell phone attached the phone was made for the data it's like having a blackberry for the calendar that occasionally works on the Internet but again to each his own
