Default Want to get ATT outside of ATT area but moving soon

Sorry for being a newb here but I hope someone can help me!
Ok so here's the deal, right now I am on an unlocked 2G iPhone on Unicel. I'm going off to college in Sept and my Unicel plan does not cover where I'm moving but ATT does. I also want to upgrade to a 3GS. Lastly I'm going to try to order it with my employee discount to save some money on the plan. So my question is how can I make this work, because I want to get my phone all setup with a new number and everything before I move down there. I know ATT has nationwide coverage so I could use my new 3GS here in the meantime.

Just for the hell of it I went through the order process up until the credit card portion to see how it worked. Of course it first asked me what zip code I would use it mainly in so I added my new cities zip code and then added my phone and plan to my cart. Now it asked me for "contact address" and "billing address", so I don't know my dorm assignment yet so all I have is my out of coverage address right now. I then see my new zip code is locked into the field under my contact address, well just for the hell of it I entered in my current address sans zip code. When I hit enter it said my address didn't make sense and offered me a suggested address with my current zip code, so I click on it and was sent to the billing page and that's all the further I have got.

So the question is, is this going to work or should I have a contact address be somewhere in a coverage area? If I did that could I change it very easily?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just put whatever address you have now, if it won't let you do it, wait for your dorm assignment and use that. Either your home address will work, or it won't.
