will ATT charge me for tethering my phone to my computer?

Currently AT&T doesn't... but that's because it's not officially available for most non-JB iPhones. That said, iPhone tethering is technically against the Terms of Service (TOS) you agreed to with AT&T. The TOS states that tethering isn't allowed without purchasing a tethering-capable plan (iPhone plans aren't).

AT&T hasn't stated anything firm yet, but they might start charge for tethering once the 3.0 firmware releases, as it allows for tethering. However, it's also possible AT&T won't allow tethering options enabled (tethering options are done by carrier bundles installed onto the phone), and, in effect, it could continue to be against the TOS to enable/use tethering on the iPhone.

This part won't be completely known for the next few weeks, probably.

If AT&T notices a ton of data usage and suspect you of tethering, there is some fee tacked onto your bill...

There is no cost to use it but if you abuse your data, they can bill you .015 USD per Kilobyte or something outrageous like that. I have used it sparingly when I am on the road and need to look something up or remote into a system and also hit 5-8GB of data on my phone alone and been fine.

I herd somewhere it was 5 gigs. I've also read people hitting 15-20 gigs and nothing happened to them.

i know right i pay more for 3g than i do for dsl... and i download like 20 gb of goodies per month on my dsl....
