I read somewhere that AT&T will only get upset and charge you more but only if you are using it online for 16 hours a day 7 days a week, then you are obvioisly using it in a way that it was not intended for.
But what do l know, i still cannot even figure out how to work the iModem app or sync it to the Wi-Fi ..... And so here i am trying to comment as i find my way to the appropriate forum thread. )

If I open a VPN connection on the iPhone, and tell it to send all traffic, then tether using PDAnet, can ATT tell that I am tethering?

I currently have a dd-wrt router with the VPN option at my house that I have a VPN account on that works with my phone, and have been tethering this way to avoid ATT thinking anything is up...

AT&T might not be able to tell if you're tethering going that route. However, I'm sure the amount of bandwidth you're taking up could cause some suspicion and flag your account.

From what the TOS states, any usage that can hinder others' data usage is grounds for overage fees or other charges.

You're safe if you tether occasionally... but don't overdo it.

I really only do simple browsing, or download tv listings for my Vista MCE pc hooked to my tv. Other than that I RDP into servers at work.
